The Sound of Snow

There are few things (outside of my family) that make me truly happy … a Mark Knopfler guitar lick … nailing an apex on a gravel road … and snow.

Knopfler comes with me everywhere via my iPod. The time spent on gravel roads has dwindled, so I make the most of it when I can. But living in Georgia … well, that makes snow hard to come by.

But when it comes, it’s a glorious thing.

Still in Hell … But Doing Better

Last month I wrote a bit about the “Four Circles of Hell” and the start of our search for replacement cars. Phases one, two and three two have been completed, but phase four is not going so well. 

(For the record, phases one and two were combined when we traded in my Subaru for a Honda Ridgeline, providing us with a vehicle that can tow and haul people and stuff in a massive amount of comfort. Phase three happened on Thursday when our trusty truck, Declan, went to a new home.)

Snow, I Like Snow

On our northern drive earlier in the week I had feared the worst. I had watched the weather reports – bitter cold, lots of precipitation. We had purchased a new (to us) vehicle for the ride and got the dealer to put on new tires. I was set to go – new knobby tires, all wheel drive, heated leather seats.

My big fear, though, was missing the storm – I really needed to drive in some snow. It had been way too long.
