Characters and Character

Blue Mountain Lake, New York

We are up here for a family gathering, meetings and partings. My father-in-law and I wandered down to the shore where we met Joe Cookie who was happy to tell us all about life on Blue Mountain Lake, his work at the lodge and the photojournalist’s work he was trying to save and scan.

Wanderings

Syracuse, New York

We are in Central New York for a spell, stopped in at my old school to wander and reminisce and marvel at how much the facilities have changed. But this glass wall, in the foyer to Newhouse I, is where we found out as first year students if we had passed the grammar, spelling and punctuaiton test. After scoring, they’d tape up long lists of grades and, I’m not making this up, Social Security numbers – find your number, see if yuo needed to take the test again.

Life was different.

After meandering on campus, we meandered across the Adirondacks.

Quiet Moments

Athens, Georgia

On a walk across campus, I found a student sitting quietly. We all need a little of this right now.

Meanwhile, construction in the newsroom is moving along – carpet going in.

Cars and Q

Dillard, Georgia

I was asked to write a car rally for the Vintage Triumph Registry’s annual convention, held today up in the North Georgia mountains. A lovely day, very nice people and I even stopped at a roadside BBQ joint for a pretty good pulled pork sandwich.
