The last time I was here was a dozen years ago, for SXSW interactive. I spent the week dashing from session to session, trying to absorb as much as I could. This trip, it’s a little more relaxed and I was able to take some time to wander, including to the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas to see the oldest-surviving photograph (or heliograph, if you want to be specific).

My friend Billy Weeks started a program years ago at the UNiversity of Tennessee – Chattanooga and was able to relaunch it this year. His Photo Night is massive, several hundred people and a ton of energy, so we loaded up a van full of kids and drove them north for an evening of learning, communing and … well, fried chicken.
