Remembrance, One

At the conclusion of our spring faculty meeting and celebration, we all headed out on to Grady College’s patio to dedicate a paver to our late colleague, Barry Hollander.

He wrote his own obituary, which surprised none of us, and included this line:

I got to work with the very best faculty in the world, got to work with the very best students in the world, got to live and raise a family in the very best town in the world.

After we said a few words, Associate Dean Jeff Springston played a favorite tune of mine, Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms, and then we all went quietly on our way.

Thursday night some of us will be at the university’s Remembrance Ceremony and, on Friday, he will be inducted into the college’s Sanford Circle.

Going to be tough couple of days in the middle of which is our spring convocation.
