Graduation

He did it. My brother Brian, after several years of picking off a class or two each semester, graduate, summa cum laude, today. He’s worked for the last 25 years, these last few he said were to show his boys that education is a life-long thing.

But this was just as much for him and I could not be happier for him.

Congrats

A few weeks ago, I got an email from another person on campus asking me to pass along a message to my students. As graduation approached and students start having grad photos made, there was a lot of metallic confetti being tossed about on campus and I was being asked to remind my students of the environmental issues at hand.

I did, but they already knew. Others, though … plastic congrats in the Herty Field fountain.

Reflecting

Grades were due today, most faculty wrapped up their year and closed down their offices. In theory, at least – those of us on nine-month contracts finished up, officially, at 5 p.m. today. Most of us will be back to work tomorrow.
