Teacha, Day One

St. Petersburg, Florida

For a dozen years, I’ve been part of an event at the Poynter Institute focused on helping college professors get better at teaching. I started as a presenter and then became a co-organizer – and it is the most terrifying thing I do each year. Trying to figure out how to help my peers be better is one thing, actually standing in front of them is another.

But I love this program, deeply love what it stands for and how we’ve built it up. After two years online, it was so nice to see the inflatable palm trees and hear the room full of voices again.

East, Then Back West

Plant City, Florida

The message came in mid-morning – a friend hadn’t made a flight, was re-routing to Orlando, two hours away. Of course I’ll make that run.

Weather was atrocious on the way east, but that evening we got together and laughed heartily – I have missed these Poynter pals greatly.

Southbound

Bell, Florida

Heading south for a return to the Poynter Institute, took the back-roads through Florida just to see something other than interstate. And what I saw was at time challenging.

The day did end with a wonderful meal with wonderful friends I had not seen in far too long.

Visiting

Bowling Green, Kentucky

As I was only an hour south, I wandered north to see my adviosr, now retired to his hometown in Kentucky. We had a wonderful couple of hours catching up, need to do that more often.
