Morning Breaks
The overnight flight from Rio de Janeiro to Houston was uneventful, the best kind. One last takeoff and we’ll be in Atlanta, then home, after ten days on the road.
Fading Out
The last day in Rio was supposed to have me making the trip to Christ the Redeemer that everyone else was able to make over our time here. Confusions and rushes didn’t let it happen, so my last day visage of the mountains around the city come in the airport, cartoon drawings above the ever present fire extinguisers.
Light and Shadows
A last meal under a louvered light, outside nearing midnight, minds wandering over what our kids produced on this once-in-a-lifetime trip to cover the Paralympic Games for the Associated Press. The nine kids so vastly exceeded our expectations that, under this light, we sketched out what’s next … and it is all kinds of cool.
